The Sinhala Association of Queensland (SAQ) successfully hosted its premier cultural event, Saralanga 2024, on September 28th at St John's Anglican College, Forest Lake. This spectacular showcase featured 336 performers, ranging from 4 to 80 years of age, representing the rich cultural tapestry of Sri Lanka and Queensland's multicultural community.
The event brought together performers and audiences from across Queensland, including Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Bundaberg, Rockhampton, Townsville, Mackay, and Cairns. Embracing true multicultural spirit, Saralanga 2024 featured performances from Sri Lankan ethnic communities - Sinhalese, Tamil, Burgher, and Muslim - alongside contributions from Vietnamese, Indian, Portuguese, and Nepalese communities.
This year's event strengthened SAQ's role as a cultural bridge, fostering cross-cultural understanding and building lasting partnerships between diverse community groups. The overwhelming participation and attendance demonstrated our community's commitment to celebrating cultural diversity and promoting social harmony.
Saralanga continues to evolve as more than just a cultural show - it has become a powerful platform for unity, cultural expression, and community building in Queensland's multicultural landscape.
