Saralanga 2023: Preserving Cultural Heritage Through Generations

The Sinhala Association of Queensland's signature cultural event, Saralanga 2023, was successfully held on September 30th, 2023, at St John's Anglican College Hall Auditorium. The event showcased 22 spectacular stage performances featuring 266 performers, highlighting the rich cultural diversity of Sri Lanka and Queensland's multicultural community. A significant highlight of the 2023 show was the emergence of next-generation choreographers including Yashani and Nishani Algama, Sahani Pathiranage, Nemi De Silva, Nimna Unantena, and Shenul Kottegoda, demonstrating the successful transmission of cultural heritage to younger generations growing up in Australia. The event was honored by the presence of representatives from Federal, State, and Council governments, and received generous support from the Commonwealth Bank of Australia as the main sponsor, along with other community sponsors. Saralanga 2023 exemplified the Sri Lankan community's commitment to preserving and sharing their cultural traditions while fostering multicultural connections in Queensland. The event's success was made possible through the dedication of performers, parents, teachers, and volunteers who worked tirelessly to create this memorable cultural celebration.
